From the Streets of Kinshasa to Kampala: Igxo Scarla Ends Seven-Year Silence with “UNDER COVER”

For seven years, Igxo Scarla was a ghost in the music industry. He wasn’t missing; he was observing. After a journey marked by displacement, survival, and an unwavering refusal to rush his craft, the Congolese-Ugandan artist has finally stepped into the light with his debut EP, UNDER COVER, out today via Ria Entertainment.

Born Obed Miti Miti Mudibu in Kinshasa, Igxo’s roots are in the church choir and childhood breakdancing circles. In 2014, he co-founded the rap group Sektion Kinois in Goma, tasting early success with TV rotation and a performance at the Amani Festival.

But in 2019, life took a sharp turn. The group scattered across the globe, and Igxo found himself in Uganda as a refugee—arriving with no English, no industry contacts, and no clear path forward.

Igxo didn’t let silence equal defeat. To survive, he sold shoes and clothes, building a network among the Congolese community in Kampala while teaching himself English through YouTube and conversations with strangers.

“I had to disappear to learn how to arrive,” Igxo says. “My mission is simple: show the generation that’s struggling that you don’t have to rush. Just keep fighting and be patient.”

What to Expect from UNDER COVER:

The 6-track project is a masterclass in global fusion. It sits at the intersection of UK drill grit and the melodic flow of Francophone African rap, with lyrics moving fluidly between Lingala, French, and English.
